Contributing to PrestaShop is not only about the code, it’s also about taking part in the PrestaShop translation project! This report tells you how the translations of the software evolved in September.
Project news
1.7.5 catalog soon available
Hi folks, I know you all know it. Yes, we did, we entered code freeze on September 20th. Few fixes left and PrestaShop 1.7.5 will be released. Yeah! So keep an eye on Crowdin, the 1.7.5 catalog should be out quite soon. With fresh strings that will then be waiting for your great translation, correction, and validation… in short, the big adventure of a new minor release!
About variables for RTL languages
Some of you asked me about how they should translate pieces of codes and variables when they appear in specific wordings, in the context of right-to-left languages. It is a nice question! Indeed, it is quite tricky because if the text should be translated in right-to-left, elements of code should stay written in left-to-right. In short, when there are variables, translations for the Arabic, Hebrew and Persian projects should contain both writings. And today, there is a known issue in Crowdin to display both LTR and RTL characters combinations in the one suggestion text area.
So here is a solution to help you people bypass this difficulty: to be sure that the translations for RTL languages are properly displayed on export, Crowdin recommends to use the Copy Source button (located under the source text) and then modify only the text parts. This way, variables, tags, etc. should stay untouched - even if they look wrong in the browser. You can read the Crowdin documentation about it to get further information.
A few stats
- 43 members were active on the project this month.
- A total of 18,895 words have been translated and 14,482 validated.
- All this in 7 different languages.
Thank you for your involvement!

Languages with the best evolution
In comparison with August 2018, the following languages had the best progress thanks to the translation community:
- Korean (+9% to reach 54% approved in 1.7)
- Spanish, Mexico (+4% to reach 66% translated in 1.7)
- Hindi (+3% to reach 5% approved in 1.7)
Thanks to all the contributors!
Of course, this is highlighting the languages that made some progress with new translations; but it doesn’t mean that the languages that aren’t mentioned here aren’t active. Indeed, some editing and rewriting could be going on, but the percentage of translation wouldn’t be modified (since it’s working on strings that are already translated). So let’s not forget about the work of these proofreaders! Thank you too!
Languages that need (more) proofreaders
A translated string will not be available in PrestaShop as long as it is not validated. For this reason, it’s important we should keep a good level of validated strings vs. translated strings, to make sure everyone benefits from the latest translations!
At the end of September 2018, some languages would still benefit from some proofreading:
- Korean (97% translated vs 45% validated in 1.6).
- Tagalog (82% vs 32% in 1.7).
- Chinese Simplified (100% vs 52% in 1.7).
- Spanish, Venezuela (54% vs 15% in 1.7).
- Galician (96% vs 64% in 1.7).
